DESCRIPTION:“FORAGING AT THE BEACH!”  We will meet in the parking lot for San Simeon Beach off Hwy 1\, at 10:00 AM.  Cari Curtis\, a local foraging expert\, will help us find and collect materials to use as natural dyes\, embellishments\, and weaving materials. She will share useful information and answer questions as we explore the beach and surrounding areas in search of unique materials. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bag to collect items. DESCRIPTION:Our February meeting will be an in person meeting held at the Strawbale Barn in Atascadero\, from 10 am to 12pm. \nThis will be a hands-on\, “Pin-Weaving with Beads” program. This technique is perfect for making delightful necklaces and other woven jewelry.  For more info\, click here \nSome supplies will be provided\, but bring the following items if you have them: \n\nA few yards of cotton\, wool or rayon thread in a few coordinating colors – thread about the size of 5/2 or 10/2 cotton works well; as does embroidery floss. Thrums are perfect for this!\nA metal kitchen fork – this will be used as a beater.\nA few medium size beads that work with your thread colors – Optional: a few small decorative bits to be used as “finials”.\nA very small crochet hook – one that will go through the holes in your beads.\nOne or two large\, blunt needles – used to weave with.\nStraight pins – 30 or so should be enough.\nOptional: you may want to have colored pencils in your yarn colors.\n\nDon’t worry if you don’t have everything on the list\, most things can be shared. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring a lunch and stay a while longer to work on your project.  Show & Tell items are always welcome. \nFor more information\, contact Barby Wunsch.

DESCRIPTION:Weaving and Fibers Vision Boards \nThis month we will be creating weaving and fibers-related vision boards. This exercise will help us unleash our creativity\, inspire ourselves and others\, and help us get to know each other through our fibers interests! Our meeting(s) will be Zoom meetings. Invitations will be sent to all guild members a few days before each meeting. \nVision boards can be created either online (I recommend Canva) or on an actual board (or a combination of both!) using photos\, sketches\, yarn\, swatches\, words and phrases\, etc… \nEach week I will send out helpful tips and ideas to guide you on this journey. We will be using these boards to answer the following questions: \n\nWhat inspires me in my weaving?\nWhat is a new skill\, technique\, or pattern I’ve always wanted to try or learn?\nWhat am I stuck on or need help with?\nWhat excites me about weaving and fibers?\nWhat do I want to accomplish this year?\n\nFor our meeting at the end of the month\, we will share our vision boards and each have a turn to discuss. This will be a fun way to get to know each other\, help me coordinate activities each month to support your growth\, and provide you with a tangible finished product to hang in your studio or weaving space to keep you inspired all year! DESCRIPTION:Our January meeting is traditionally a lunch out at a local restaurant with attendees encouraged to wear their woven garments. This year\, due to Covid concerns\, our January meeting will be a Zoom meeting\, “Pinkies Up!”. \nGet dressed up\, wear something handwoven if you can… make yourself a pot of your favorite tea\, put out a few biscuits  and enjoy the party. Members are invited to share their memories of tea parties past\, including photos of tea service\, table settings\, and other items\, especially those that are handwoven.  Favorite recipes are welcome.   Photos or memories of tea parties you have hosted or attended would be especially nice.  Please send your pictures with accompanying text to irene@kcbx.net by January 24th so that they may be included in a Power Point presentation\, then  join us on Saturday\, January 29th to talk about your items and enjoy other guild members’ contributions.  For more information\, contact Irene at irene@kcbx.net.

DESCRIPTION:LEARN TO SPIN WITH A SPINDLE ~ Have you ever wondered how someone can take a pile of fiber and turn it into beautiful yarn\, using only a small piece of wood spinning around on the floor?  A group of “roaming spinners”\, aka guild members\, will teach the basics of drop spindle spinning. Patricia Martin will provide wool for all participants and spindles to use for those who need one. If you have a spindle\, please bring it to learn on\, or to improve your technique. There will also be wood spindles for sale at $2.50.
