October 10-12, 2025. Indigo Dying Workshop
An Indigo Dying Workshop will be presented by John Marshall. We will spend 3 days with John sharing his knowledge of this dye plant and how it can be used in several different ways as a colorant for cloth. The workshop will be outdoors in Else Drengler’s Garden in Arroyo Grande. There are no preparations for the class but a list of basic materials required will be sent to participants. A maximum of 12 students will be allowed. This workshop is currently full. Contact Patricia Martin if you wish to be placed on a wait list The fee is $495. For questions or for more information, contact Patricia Martin
NOTE: There is a Guild Activity related to this workshop topic after the September 11, 2025 All Guild Thursday Meeting and continuing on Friday, September 12. This is an opportunity to practice your dyeing skills (not a class). After the Guild meeting, we will meet at 2pm at Patricia Martin’s Studio to stitch, wrap, scrunch and prepare cloth for dyeing. This first meeting will just be a time to work before the indigo pots get going. We will meet again on Friday to continue working. What to bring: your own materials, fabric, thread, scissors, tools and inspiration/ideas. (This group will meet in the afternoon after the All Guild Thursday meetings (if no other guild activity is scheduled) and work on techniques, in preparation (overnight mordanting) for dyeing on Fridays. This group will focus on the natural world (no fiber reactive or acid dyes). Contact Patricia with any questions)
